Credit Card Split Financing Guide

Repay based on your daily card sales — a flexible alternative to fixed monthly payments.

Credit card split financing (also called merchant cash advance or MCA) advances you a lump sum in exchange for a percentage of your future credit and debit card sales. Repayments flex with your revenue — when sales are slow, you pay less; when they're strong, you pay more.

How Credit Card Split Works

A lender advances you a set amount — say $50,000 — and in return takes a fixed percentage (the 'split') of your daily card transactions until the advance plus a factor fee is repaid. If your split is 15% and you process $5,000 in card sales today, $750 goes to repayment automatically.

Factor Rates vs. Interest Rates

Credit card split products use factor rates rather than APR. A factor rate of 1.25 on a $50,000 advance means you repay $62,500 total. Because repayment speed depends on sales volume, the effective APR can vary widely — from 20% to over 100% annualized. Always calculate total cost, not just the factor rate.

Who Benefits Most

Businesses with high card transaction volumes and seasonal or variable revenue benefit most: restaurants, retail stores, salons, e-commerce businesses, and hospitality operators. The flexible repayment structure means a slow month doesn't create a cash crisis the way a fixed loan payment might.

Qualification Requirements

Lenders typically require at least 6 months in business, $10,000 or more in monthly revenue (with a meaningful portion from card sales), and 6 months of bank and processing statements. Credit score requirements are minimal — daily card volume is the primary qualification metric.

Is It Right for Your Business?

Credit card split financing is best used for short-term needs where speed and flexibility outweigh cost — inventory purchases, marketing campaigns, equipment repairs, or bridging a cash flow gap. For longer-term capital needs, a term loan or line of credit is usually more cost-effective.
